How Color Matching Works in Modern Collision Repair

Inside the Midland TX paint booth: how computerized color matching delivers a flawless, factory-quality finish on every collision repair.

When PDR isn't an option, the difference between a great repair and a visible repaint comes down to one thing: color matching. Here's how a modern Midland paint shop gets it right.

Step 1 — Reading your vehicle's exact paint code

Every vehicle has a 3- or 4-digit factory paint code printed on a door jamb sticker. We pull that code, then refine the formula based on the panel's age and sun exposure.

Step 2 — Spectrophotometer scan

We scan the original panel with a digital spectrophotometer that reads the exact pigment values. The scanner matches across thousands of OEM color variants — including factory tri-coats and pearls.

Step 3 — Test sprays and downdraft booth

We spray test cards, blend across adjacent panels, and finish in a temperature-controlled downdraft booth so the result is invisible — even in West Texas sunlight.

The result

A factory-quality finish with full color, gloss, and texture match. Backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty.
